Assistant Rental Manager & Equipment Maintenance Technician
Location: Village Hardware – Leipsic, OH
About the Role
We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on team member to join our Rental Department. This position combines equipment maintenance and repair with assistant manager responsibilities to keep our rental business running smoothly. You’ll help ensure that our tools and rental equipment are well-maintained, safe, and ready for customers, while also supporting daily operations, customer service, and staff leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on rental equipment (power tools, lawn & garden equipment, small engines, etc.).
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate larger repairs with service team as needed.
- Assist Rental Manager in daily operations, including scheduling, inventory management, and customer check-ins/returns.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering rental questions, demonstrating equipment use, and ensuring customer safety.
- Help train and guide rental staff, serving as a lead when the manager is unavailable.
- Support commercial and contractor accounts by preparing equipment for delivery or pickup.
- Maintain a clean, organized rental yard and service area.
- Monitor seasonal rental trends (spring projects, fall cleanup) and prepare equipment accordingly.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with small engines, power tools, or rental equipment (required).
- Previous experience in equipment rental, hardware, or related industry preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Leadership potential with ability to supervise or train staff.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL not required, but a plus).
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in indoor/outdoor conditions.

Compensation: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
