Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety conscious Lumberyard Boom Truck Operator/Yard Support candidate to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for operating a boom truck to load, unload and transport lumber and other building supplies to jobsites. The successful candidate will place a crucial role ensuring our customers receive accurate and timely deliveries and will also provide support in our yard building orders alongside other yard staff.
A requirement of this position is the candidate must hold a valid CDL – Class A or B driver’s license with air brake endorsement + manual transmission, a clean driving record and ability to obtain a DOT health card. DO NOT apply for this position if you do not have a valid CDL license allowing you to drive a truck with manual transmission.
* If you are looking for a delivery only or truck driving position, this is not for you. This position also requires warehouse work including forklift operating, loading/unloading materials from trucks, putting lumber away and other duties as assigned.
In this position, your primary duties include but are not limited to:
-Loading and unloading trucks, trailers, flatbeds and boom truck with precision and accuracy
-Accurately pulling orders, staging orders and completing deliveries
-Coordinate delivery schedule so back-to-back loads are delivered efficiently
-Properly secures loads before leaving the yard
-Safely unload and deliver materials while prioritizing personal safety and the safety of those around you
-Ability to judge distance while delivering materials and operating the boom
-Upon arriving at jobsite, safely maneuver truck in sometimes tight locations
-Preforming routine maintenance checks on the boom truck to ensure proper functioning and report any maintenance issues promptly
-Completing deliveries in other fleet vehicles
-Stock lumber and building materials into storage bins/racks – both manually and by forklift or pallet jack
-Maintain customer relationships by treating them in a professional, friendly manner
-Communicating effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient operations
Physical Requirements:
-Stamina to continuously work and lift 75-100 pounds repeatedly
-Continuously working in an outside environment in all weather conditions
-Load/unload materials using forklift
-Physically able to pull orders by hand and break down loads to safe limits for boom load capacity
Cognitive Requirements:
-Must be able to prioritize jobsites and deadlines
-Must be able to manage stress depending on customers delivery window of time
-Must be able to quickly communicate solutions if problems occur
-Must be able to multitask and follow directions
-Extreme attention to detail
Required qualifications:
-Valid CDL License – Class A or B with air brake endorsement and ability to drive a manual transmission truck
-Clean driving record
-Ability to obtain a DOT health card
-Ability to self-manage, show initiative and be proactive
Preferred Qualifications:
-Boom truck operating and forklift experience
