We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Manager to oversee daily operations at our lumberyard. The Yard Manager will be responsible for managing the yard operations, ensuring safe and efficient handling of materials, supervising a team, maintaining inventory, and providing excellent customer service. This role requires a strong understanding of lumber products, logistics, and team leadership, as well as an ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Yard Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of lumberyard operations, including receiving, storing, and shipping materials.
- Ensure all materials are properly organized and stored according to company standards.
- Monitor the yard’s cleanliness, organization, and safety to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Logistics & Delivery:
- Coordinate with drivers for timely deliveries and pick-ups.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring proper handling and minimal damage.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records using yard management software or other tracking systems.
- Assist with regular inventory counts and adjustments as necessary.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure adequate stock levels and timely replenishment of products.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and train yard staff on proper handling, storage, and safety protocols.
- Schedule and assign work duties to ensure operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve employee performance.
Customer Service:
- Provide excellent service to customers, helping them load materials and addressing inquiries.
- Ensure that orders are accurately pulled and ready for delivery or pick-up in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues or concerns quickly and professionally.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety standards and regulations within the yard.
- Ensure the proper maintenance and use of equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, and other machinery.
- Implement and follow safety training programs to minimize accidents and injuries.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain records related to inventory, sales, and shipping.
- Help with pricing and tagging materials.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including order processing and invoicing.
Qualifications:
Experience: 3+ years of experience in yard management, warehouse management, or a related field. Previous experience in a lumberyard or building materials setting is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of lumber products, materials handling, and inventory management systems.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or vocational training is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor in outdoor conditions.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
Compensation: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
